As a part of a hairdressers training, the salon has an obligation to train them in the art of the hairdressing trade. Generally they first start their learning on friends and family, and as they progress through learning different skills and grow in competency, they are required to find models (people with hair that suits their required training module).

The typical order of learning skills is in the order as follows:
- shampooing
- rinsing colour
- blow drying
- long hairdressing / up styling
- applying toners
- apply semis
- apply tints
- keratin / perming
- basic cutting (one length / long layers)
- mens cutting (short layers / scissor over comb)
- advanced cutting (bobs / graduation)

Each of these areas of skill has a training module that is to be completed both at a recognised training institution and within the salon of employment in order for the apprentice to acquire their trade certificate, and to be able to carry out specific tasks in their field of work to an acceptable standard.

It is common for haidressers to fail to find models for their training, let alone appropriate models specific for their current stage of learning. Like most industries, it is up to the individual in learning to prove themselves worthy before their employer / mentor invests valuable time into them. This often means there are limited resources for the apprentices, and their journey in acquiring skills to complete their trade can be extremely challenging in consequence. Guinea Pig is here to help make this easier.
